First in Fatty Liver Disease Diagnosis and Management
Consider Your Liver
Fatty liver disease is extremely common, affecting an estimated 100 million – or 1 out of every 4 – Americans. Although this “silent” disease often has few noticeable symptoms, it can raise your risk of cardiovascular disease, liver failure, and liver cancer.
That’s why Capital Digestive Care has invested in expert physicians, leading-edge technology, research, and support for people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), now known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), now known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), and alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD).

How We’re Different
Leading-edge technology
We are one of the few practices in the region to offer the latest technology to assess liver health. Many of these procedures are noninvasive and can be performed in the office by our experts.
- Ultrasound-based procedures to detect, manage, and monitor fatty liver disease.
- Velacur and FibroScan ultrasound-based elastography, which can measure the degree of scarring (fibrosis), excess fat (steatosis), and inflammation in the liver.
Fatty liver disease specialists
Clinical research
Through our clinical research arm, Chevy Chase Clinical Research and our Norfolk, Virginia office, we offer our patients access to the latest therapies for fatty liver disease – before they’re available anywhere else.
Nationally renowned in-house laboratory
Our laboratory was the first GI specialty practice laboratory in the nation to be named a Roche Diagnostics Center of Excellence, which cements us as a key opinion leader in gastroenterology. We offer the full range of advanced anatomic pathology, molecular diagnostics, and clinical diagnostic testing, for accurate detection, management, and ongoing surveillance of your condition. Patients can conveniently complete their lab testing at most of our offices during their visit, eliminating the need for an extra appointment at an outside lab facility.
The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases adopted new naming conventions for fatty liver disease and its associated conditions. The name changes aim to promote more inclusive and judgment-free care for people with liver disease.
