Biography

Haja Dumbuya, NP-C’s lifelong interest in science and the human body, combined with her passion for caregiving, made a career in medicine the perfect job for her. When she was a child, her mother was diagnosed with colon cancer, and Haja’s memories of that experience have shaped her approach to patient care. Specifically, she tries to create a strong rapport with her patients, so they feel comfortable and confident in their treatment plan.

Today, Haja is a certified nurse practitioner who has been in practice since 2020. She believes open communication is paramount in understanding each patient’s unique needs and concerns, and she strives for shared decision making, collaborating with patients to develop personalized care plans that align with their values and preferences.

Haja provides general gastroenterology (GI) care and appreciates the GI system’s overarching impact on overall wellness. She enjoys making a positive impact on her patients’ lives during vulnerable moments and building connections with individuals facing health challenges. She approaches her work as a calling that brings true purpose to her professional life.

She earned a bachelor of science in nursing at the University of Akron in Ohio, followed by a master of science in nursing with an adult gerontology primary care specialization at the University of Cincinnati.

“My approach to patient care is characterized by a holistic and patient-centered philosophy. I believe in fostering a positive and open relationship with my patients through humor and rapport building. By incorporating preventive medicine and emphasizing healthy lifestyle choices, I aim to empower individuals to take an active role in their well-being,” Haja said. “Overall, my approach revolves around creating a supportive and collaborative environment that promotes both physical and emotional well-being.”

Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Haja worked as a certified nurse practitioner at Maumee Bay Family Medicine in Ohio and Churchland Internal Medicine in Chesapeake, VA. She spent more than 10 years as a nurse in the intensive care unit before going back to school to become a nurse practitioner.

Haja has two daughters, and her husband serves in the United States Air Force. An Ohio native raised in Cincinnati, Haja enjoys traveling, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
