Capital Digestive Care is pleased to announce the addition of Kathryn Fisher, DNP, CRNP, FNP-C to our Norfolk, Virginia office.
From a young age, Kathryn had an innate desire to help others. She decided to pursue a career in nursing following high school. Over time, she fell in love with patient care and academia, which propelled her forward to complete graduate school and obtain her doctorate of nursing practice. She hopes to use her education and training to improve the quality of her patients’ lives using evidence-based practice principles.
Today, Kathryn is a board-certified nurse practitioner who provides general gastroenterology (GI) care. She is particularly interested in the brain-gut axis, functional gut disorders, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Kathryn is passionate about patient education and instilling autonomy in her patients, so they feel comfortable and supported in making decisions about their care. She aims to treat each patient with respect and compassion.
Kathryn earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania. While working as a registered nurse, she completed her master’s in nursing with a family nurse practitioner specialization, followed by her doctorate of nursing practice, both from Misericordia.
“I believe forming a trusting relationship from the beginning with your patients is key. Patients should feel comfortable and cared for when they visit their providers. I do my best to create that comfortable environment at each and every visit with my patients, ensuring all of their concerns are appropriately addressed,” Kathryn said. In a nutshell, her care philosophy is “to treat all patients with respect and compassion and give patients the autonomy to make decisions about their care.”
Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Kathryn practiced as a registered nurse in a wide array of settings, including the intensive care unit, medical-surgical unit, hospice, and long-term acute care. While earning her doctorate of nursing practice, Kathryn served as the Graduate Nursing Service Organization president and received an award for clinical excellence.
